  18. If an IBM Token Ring card is incorrectly configured for the data rate
  19. of the network (16 Mbps or 4 Mbps), the following error messages may
  20. appear when you view the System Log in Event Viewer
  21.  
  22.    Nbf could not find adapter \Device\IbmTok0x
  23.  
  24.    Nbf failed to bind to adapter \Device\IbmTok0x
  25.  
  26. where "x" is the adapter number of your card.
  27.  
  28. CAUSE
  29. =====
  30.  
  31. These messages do not reflect an error in Windows NT. The event log
  32. reports that it is unable to find the IBM Token Ring card. When the
  33. Token Ring card is initialized, the driver attempts to tell the ring
  34. that it is there. If the card is configured incorrectly for the ring,
  35. it is unable to communicate to the ring, and therefore tells Windows
  36. NT that the card is not present.

  38. RESOLUTION
  39. ==========

  41. Correctly set the jumpers on the card for the data rate of the ring.
  42. Switch 12 of the switch block on the IBM Token Ring card sets the
  43. rate. For a Data Rate of 16 Mbps, set switch 12 to OFF. For a Data
  44. Rate of 4 Mbps, set switch 12 to ON.
